Dr. Ryan Orgera

Dr. Ryan Orgera is the Pew Charitable Trust’s Senior Associate, Global Shark Conservation. Ryan has worked as the Coastal States Organization’ Legislative Representative, and has served as a coastal resilience project manager with the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium and the Urban Coast Institute of Monmouth University. Prior to working on the Jersey Shore, Ryan was a Dean John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellow in the office of U.S. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida.
During his time with Senator Nelson, Ryan worked on coral conservation, invasive species, flood insurance, coastal management, and many other ocean policy issues. Ryan holds a B.A. and M.A. in Romance Languages from the University of South Florida and a Ph.D. in Geography from Louisiana State University. Ryan continues an active social science research agenda and is a specialist on the political and cultural history of ocean protection systems.
